Liberty vs. Whitehall Preview

Who will win the Lehigh Valley Conference high school football title in 2006? Many thought that Liberty and Whitehall's match-up this weekend would go a long way to answering that question, since they were co-champs last year. However, Whitehall is a step behind Liberty after suffering a season opening loss to Bethlehem Catholic.

To read a preview, please click on our headline "Liberty Vs. Whitehall Preview".

Pine-Richland vs. Franklin Regional

Showdown time in the Greater Allegheny Conference as Pine-Richland travels to Franklin Regional. Both teams are 2-0, and last year this one was a shootout with Franklin winning 49-48 in double overtime. Franklin Regional went on to win the PIAA AAA championship.

To read a preview, please click on our headline "Pine-Richland vs. Franklin Regional".

Bangor vs. Saucon Valley Preview

A couple of 0-2 teams will meet in Bangor tonight looking for their first win when Bangor hosts Saucon Valley. Bangor has suffered back-to-back shutout losses and has been outscored 90-0. That's not something making Bangor head coach Frank Scagliotta smile about, since he came back to his hometown to turn the program around.

For a preview of the game from the Express-Times, please click on our headline "Bangor vs. Saucon Valley Preview".

Easton Vs. Allen Preview

She Gets A Kick Out Of Being An Easton Red Rover

In last week's 41-0 win over Emmaus, the Easton football program had a first in 113 years of playing football.

Kicker Ian Heck arrived late for the game, so Brittany Ryan became the first girl to ever play football at Easton. Ryan was a perfect 5-for-5 on extra points.

#1 Greensburg Central Catholic May Have To Forfeit Opening Win

On October 5th, Greensburg Central Catholic may lose a game without taking the field. That's when the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association will rule on whether the Centurions should forfeit their season opening 57-0 win over East Allegheny because they used an ineligible player.

Greensburg Central Catholic is currently ranked #1 in Class AA by the Patriot-News and Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

Pius X Passes Opening Test

Pius X opponents know that the secret to stopping the Royals in 2006 will be shutting down senior quarterback Cole Hildabrant. Imhotep Charter of Philadelphia knew that, but couldn't do anything about it as the 6-2, 220-pound Hildabrant tossed five touchdowns Sunday leading Pius to a 48-6 win in the season opener for both teams.

Bethlehem Catholic Tops Whitehall

Thanks to all of the rain this past weekend, Bethlehem Catholic and Whitehall had to wait until Sunday to open their seasons. When the season finally did kickoff at Bethlehem School District Stadium, it was Becahi that proved that they should be mentioned as contenders for the Lehigh Valley Conference title.

Beca, which entered the game with uncertainty at quarterback after Alex Atiyeh attempted to tranfer to Allen, walked away with a 24-9 win. The key to the win was the play of junior quarterback Ben Eichman, who ran for two scores and tossed a touchdown pass.

Pittsburgh Central Catholic Opens With Hard Fought Win

USA Today has Pittsburgh Central Catholic ranked #9 in the nation. After Saturday's hard fought 42-27 win against arch-rival Gateway, Viking head coach Terry Totten wants his team to worry about what happens on the field and not in the papers. Woodland Hills' Off-Field Problems Catch-up In Upset Loss

Woodland Hills got plenty of pre-season press, but in the recent weeks it wasn't necessarily about football. With star running back Marcel Farrish getting in trouble with the North Braddock and not playing Friday night against Mt. Lebanon, plus blue chip transfer Rob Gronkowski serving a one-game suspension and linebacker Lamar Mason, also on the bench, Woodland Hills, ranked #3 in the pre-season Patriot-News AAAA Top 10, was upset 23-14.

To read a game wrap, please click on our headline "Woodland Hills' Off-Field Problems Catch-up in Upset Loss".

Easton Opens Strong With Win Over Cardinal O'Hara

Easton's high school football team has been through a lot since the end of the 2005 season. Most notably, the loss of this year's expected starting quarterback Mike Cummings, who was killed in a car crash back in March. Friday night, the Red Rovers honored Cummings by wearing his Number 9 on their helmets, and then honored him even more with a 6-0 win over Cardinal O'Hara 6-0 in the season opener for both teams.
