While most of Pennsylvania's high school football teams have one week to go in the regular season, the WPIAL begins the Road To Hershey with first round games this coming weekend.
Sunday the seedings were announced with Upper St. Clair (9-0), the only unbeaten AAAA WPIAL team, being named the #1 seed in 4A. Nationally ranked Pittsburgh Central Catholic is the #3 seed....so much for what national rankings are about.
The top seed in 3A is Thomas Jefferson, while Aliquippa is the top dog in 2A and Rochester is numero uno in 1A.

#1 Easton Loses To #5 Liberty
Two of the best 4A high school football teams in Pennsylvania proved that polls aren't the best barometer for who's the best. #5 Liberty (8-1, 7-1) knocked-off top-ranked Easton (8-1, 7-1) Friday night 17-7 before 10,000 fans. Wilson Matches 1948 Team's 7-0 Start
The bullseye that was placed on Wilson's chest at the start of the season doesn't seem to be affecting the Warriors. The 2005 2A state runner-ups beat Northern Lehigh 24-7 Saturday to improve to 7-0 and move into the drivers' seat in the Colonial League championship race. It's Wilson best start since the 1948 team finished 9-0.

Easton Rolls To 7-0
The Easton (7-0) defense got back to Ground Zero Friday night against Freedom (4-3). The Red Rovers, who had their five game shutout streak ended last week, pitched its sixth shutout in seven games with a 39-0 win over the Patriots.

Liberty Looks To Rebound Against A Tough Northampton Team
Liberty got a wake-up call last weekend in an upset loss to crosstown rival Bethlehem Catholic. Now the Hurricanes have to rebound to make sure they find their way into the post-season. Friday night, the Canes (5-1, 4-1) play a very good Northampton squad (4-2) that could gain some respect with a win over last year's 4A state runner-up.

Wilson-Northern Lehigh Showdown Set For Saturday
The Colonial League championship will be on the line Saturday when 2005 2A state runner-up Wilson (6-0) hosts Northern Lehigh (5-1) at Smith Field. Wilson is led by all-league quarterback D.J. Lenehan who has completed 63 percent (61-96) of his passes this year for 1,050 yards and 12 touchdowns. Lenehan's QB rating is 122.8.

Patriot-News Pennsylvania High School Football Rankings
Easton may have seen its five game shutout streak come to an end last week, but the Patriot-News pollsters think the Red Rovers are for real. District XI powers Easton and Parkland were the big movers in the latest poll. Both schools moved up three places in the latest rankings. However, even though the two play in the same Lehigh Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference, they won't meet during the regular season. Eastern football fans will have to wait until the post-season for a possible showdown.

Shaler "Arrives" With Win Over North Hills
Shaler entered its game with North HIlls on Saturday as an underdog even though it brough a 3-1 record into the contest. The reason, Shaler hadn't had a winning record since 2000, and most felt that North Hills was the stronger team.
