Three of the four #1 teams in the Patriot-News opened the season with wins to maintain their positions in the first regular season poll. Clairton, the pre-season top dawg in A, lost to Laurel 15-7, and fell to #7 this week...one spot behind Laurel.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette rankings saw two team fall from their #1 perch. In addition to Clairton, AAAA pre-season #1 Liberty lost its opener. North Penn, which beat the defending state champs Friday night, take over the top spot this week.
