Pennsylvania High School Football Huddle
It took a while, but Pennsylvania has joined the list of top football states that honor their best players with a Mr. Football award...actually the Keystone State has started with two...one for AAAA/AAA and the other for AA/A.
Rushell Shell of Hopewell High School won the AAAA/AAA Mr. Pennsylvania Football award, while Desimon Green of Clairton High won the AA/A award. Shell and Green were chosen from a group of 10 finalists.
Shell, who is a junior running back, has rushed for 6,766 yards in his career. He beat-out finalists Ryan Brumfield of Owen J. Roberts; Jalen Fitzpatrick of Harrisburg; Brendan Nosovitch of Allentown Central Catholic and Delvon Simmons of McKeesport.
Green, who is headed to Texas Tech, passed for nearly 1,900 yards and ran for 700 more last season. He accounted for 43 touchdowns, plus added 14 sacks on defense. The other AA/A finalists were: Julien Anderson of Washington; Christian Brumbaugh of South Fayette; Brandon Hollomon of West Catholic and Corey Talerico of Riverside.
The Pennsylvania Mr. Football Awards were sponsored by SportsRecruiters.com.
